Rest in Peace Aunt Marian

Marian and Harold ChambersI learned today that my Aunt Marian passed away yesterday at home. She had been ill for some time but I had no idea she was so close to leaving us. I was hoping that she would make it at least long enough to enjoy another family reunion.

Our prayers and thoughts go out to Harold Sr., Harold Jr., Rick, Tom, Vicki, Kelly, and all their spouses and kids. We wish we could be there for you all, to say the least. Over the next few days, I will post about some of my favorite memories in my blog.

Some hacker/pornographer has decided to spam our guest book with filth so I have had to take it off line for a while. I have a newer guest book module that I have to install then import the data from the old one. It will take a day or two until I find the time to get it done…..

Francis "Sonny" Burke

Fran passed away in his sleep on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 after coming home from the hospital on Monday. He will be greatly missed, to say the least.

He was born in Janesville on Nov. 17, 1929, the son of Alvin R. and Bernice H. (Belken) Burke. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School and Janesville High School. He served in the US Army in the Air Defense Branch and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1968 after 21 years of service. Sonny married Marcella A. Jacobson on Aug. 11, 1951, and she preceded him in death. He married Joan Kerr on March 19, 1999. He had been formerly employed by Gibbs Manufacturing and by Best Built Garage. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, and the American Legion of Janesville and Beloit.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Beloit; 3 children: Tom (Mary) Burke, Susan Burke and Mary (Joseph Hills) Bessel all of Janesville; 10 grandchildren and step grandchildren: Ruby, Garrett and Olivia Burke, Kara (Nate) Schwichtenberg, Julie Peters, Devon and Adrianna Hills, Danielle Amsbaugh, Nick (Jen) Amsbaugh, Joe (Jen) Amsbaugh; 5 great grandchildren; 4 step children: Jay (Pam) Amsbaugh of New Jersey, Jon (Shirley) Amsbaugh of IL, JR (Alyssa) Amsbaugh of NJ and Janet (Doug) Fogle of IL; 1 sister, Arlene Burke of Texas; and 2 brothers, Paul (Bev) Burke of Florida/Illinois and Dick (Barb) Burke of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marcella; infant daughter, Brenda; and 2 sisters, Eloise Holden and Elaine Derk.

More Prayers Needed

Your prayers are requested for my step-father, Fran Burke. He is in the hospital in dire condition and needs your prayers and good thoughts of all kinds. He has several things going on at once in his body and he and my mom can use all the good wishes you can send their way.

Happy Birthday Sister!

Just got home from work and wanted to say a (bit late) Happy Birthday to my little sister, Janet! Wooohooo! We’re now the same age for 11 days! Ach, we’re getting so old!!!!

Your Prayers Requested

Please pray for my wonderful Aunt Marian. She is very ill and all our prayers are desperately needed. She and Uncle Harold celebrated their 50th anniversary just a few months ago in May and I, for one, would like for them to have many more years together.

Fire Aftermath Photos

St. Cloud HotelHere is one photo of the front of the St. cloud Hotel here in Washington. This was just a couple of days after the fire that gutted this historic building. They have since torn down the biulding, except for the brick wall in the front.

Dinner at the Gonzalez’s

We went to our friend’s house yesterday for food, drink, and fun! We took a few photos which are in the gallery. There’s even a short video discussion about the word “orange.” Remember that you have to be registered and logged in to view the galley!

Local Hotel Burns

The St. Cloud Hotel burned last night. It is another historic building here in Washington, NJ, to go up in flames. I wrote another note about the local hardware store that burned to the ground last year. There are many people talking about how they think this is part of the “rejuvenation” plan for the borough. It does seem highly suspicious that a second historic building has been destroyed by fire in just over a year. Our local fire department hasn’t been this busy in decades.

Our Lives, our Fortunes, our sacred Honor

This day marks the 231st anniversary of the passage of the Declaration of Independence. Too many people look at it as just another holiday to get off of work and eat food outdoors. To them, I give the following from the Patriot Post:

Our nation began with these stirring words in the Declaration of Independence: “When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.” Now, 231 years later, they still ring true.

The Big 5-0!

Marian & HaroldHarold and Marian Chambers will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary May 4, 2007 with a family dinner for 52 family members from 8 states at Dutch Heritage on May 5, 2007.

The former Marian Amsbaugh and Harold were married May 4, 1957 at First Presbyterian Church in Mansfield, Ohio by Dr. James Brown. The couple has five children: Harold Chambers of Donna, TX, Tom (Heidi) Chambers of Mansfield, OH, Rick (Jenny) Chambers of Sumpter,SC, Vicki (Jerry)Swope of Pittsburg, CA, and Kelly (Philip) Bailey of Franklin, IN. They also have eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Marian and Harold are retired from H.A.Chambers Construction, Inc.

Tragedy in Virginia

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the students, faculty, and their families of Virginia Tech. I can only imagine the things they must be going through and how tough it will be for them over the next few weeks.
